something has gone horribly wrong 8-p

The concept was good but the casting was not. All were sent home except Mr. Ed who remained in his strall. The casting of the "voice: of Mr. Ed was "Rocky Lane, a 1940's singing cwboy from Republic studios who took up residence at the creator's home on the sofa". said Alan Young in an interview. He didn't get credit for the voice because at first he didn't want to be associated with a talking horse but when the show caught on, he wanted credit but was denied it. The producer of the show said if any one (including children) knew who the voice was it would take away the magic of the show.

Subject: Not bad!
Wasn't a bad show really,Alan Young was a better fit than these people, but its by no means unwatchable!

Subject: Oh Wilburrrrrr
It is interesting how much this failed attempt was the cast.

It is virtually the identical script, to the final Alan Young pilot.

But the actors and direction are just plain lame.

Also a completely different (likely borrowed) set.

Besides Ed himself remaining, his voice (ex cowboy star Rocky Lane) also made it to the final product..

Also network and sponsor might have been put off by the name Pope which of course was changed to Post in the final version. And the show title changed to just Mr Ed leaving Wilbur out of it all together.
